Chiswick High Road
Overview
Chiswick Green, Chiswick High Road is a mixed-use development which has recently been completed by HG Construction for developer Great Marlborough Estates. Designed by Assael Architecture, the project has transformed the former Empire House to meet the needs of modern living. The four-block scheme has provided new retail space to the area, alongside 138 homes, with a mix of affordable and private housing.
SBS Cladding worked with sub-contractors Quba Construction to supply Genius metal cladding in grey and copper to the project, which was used to give the site a contemporary look.
Concept to completion
Located within the Turnham Green Conservation Area, it was important to the architects that the palette of materials used was sympathetic to the existing local architecture. With facing bricks chosen as the primary material on the lower levels of the buildings, Genius metal cladding panels were selected for the ten-storey tower to create feature panels across the facade.
The cladding panels in a copper-colour were used to complement the red toned brickwork, whilst simultaneously creating a contrast with the light-coloured stonework. Alongside the copper, grey panels were also selected to match the composite window frames and metal balconies, which were selected in the same RAL code.
The tight plot and party walls created logistical challenges for the project, resulting in all materials needing to arrive on site ready for swift and efficient installation. This was a benefit that Genius cladding was able to offer, with the panels selected from the Prime range, which utilises a ‘hook on’ method that offers fast installation. The fixings are fully concealed in the recessed joints, giving the facade a sleek finish.
